Caroline’s Defibrillator’s

This post is not for sympathy!

It’s for the greater good and I’m really hoping that something positive can come out of something that’s a little negative.

Not that long ago I was in Citation, Glasgow having dinner with a friend and I collapsed. The ambulance operator told my friend Sarah to go and get the Defibrillator.......Citation did not have one and I was lucky that the Royal Infirmary is only a couple of minutes along the road and that an ambulance was there relatively quickly.

This was a horrible thing for Sarah to witness and I am eternally grateful to her for her quick and calm reaction and for refusing to leave my side.

In the past I’ve had colleagues have to perform CPR to start my heart again.

It’s not a very nice experience for my family and friends to see any of my episodes and I’m always absolutely mortified afterwards.

This last episode got me thinking that so many bars, restaurants, work places etc do not have defibrillator’s. So I am going to fundraise to get some.

*Did you know that if a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6 per cent to 74 per cent!

I am teaming up with my local, The Boarding House and I am going to raise funds to get a defibrillator for their premises to start off with. I’ll make sure that all staff and any locals or members of the public who want to know how to use it will have all of the relevant training.

I’ll be starting to pull ideas together when I’m fully recovered and my aim (to start with) is to team up with other establishments and get 10+ defibrillators around various places within Renfrewshire & Glasgow. I’d greatly appreciate any support that you lovely people can offer me.
