Deepavali Fooddrive for Foreign Workers

Background of the initiative:

CNA broke out news with migrant workers given food with insects, worms and debris. This was very upsetting that a couple of us decided that we wanted to do what small part we can for the people who helped build our nation and rely on for the upkeep and cleanliness of Singapore. Every person DESERVES at least a proper meal. And what better way to say thanks , by providing one.

How we are using the funds:

We’re fundraising to cover the cost of food and supplies for about 500 Foreign Workers. Of course the goal is to provide a good meal for our brothers , who work tirelessly everyday for the betterment of Singapore.

If your unable to donate money, you can bake cookies, provide tidbit and drinks which we can pass the workers. We also need help with logistic and deliveries.

If you are a caterer and able to sponsor us dishes, that will be best.

For all the kind souls that are donatiing, we will create a telegram chat to keep your numbers private , and share regular upates of the prep and on the day of delivery.

We intend to deliver all the food on the 14th of November, a Sunday. As the caters need sometime to prep and for us to make payment, we have set the cut off date for donation at 5th Nov.

There are about 350,000 Foreign workers in Singapore and even if we can feed just 30,000 , it would be a good start. But we are targeting a small group of workers at a construction site dorm located at punggol for for a start, thus the small target of 5000. To feed 30,000 workers we will require $300,000 after bulk discounts provided for food and delivery by suppliers.

Each packet of food costs $13 at the moment. It includes biryani rice, veg dalca, mutton Mysore, chickens masala, sambal fish, raita, sago dessert and fruit punch. If we receive additional funds, we will provide additional traditional Indian savories such as murukku, laddu, etc. The delivery costs estimated is about $5 for each bento set as they are various locations and quantities.

Our foreign workers having been going through a lot the past 2 years due to Covid 19 and still they bear the brunt of negligence and selfishness through the companies they work for and other organizations they reply on.

• Unpaid wages
• Poorly cooked / monotonous food
• Health and mental issues left unaddressed
• Ill treatment and abuse

Lets do what we can this festival of light, to bring back some light in their lives.
