Special Project:New facility needed for CAESEDA Centre d’Acceuil et d’Education Specialisee des Enfants Deficients Auditifs Nkolmebanga

(CAESEDA Specialized Education Reception Center for Children with Hearing Impairments Nkolmebanga)

The deaf children who currently live and go to school at CAESEDA Centre d’Acceuil et d’Education Specialisee des Enfants Deficients Auditifs Nkolmebanga, approximately 80 km outside Yaoundé, Cameroon are in need of a new school and living quarters (orphanage). The facility is currently housed in the deteriorating buildings of an old poultry factory.

It is heartbreaking to see these children living and going to school in such unpleasant conditions. The roofs leak and there are no adequate bathrooms. The bedroom windows had to be boarded up because a man tried to abduct some of the children while they were sleeping. These children need a safe, secure, and comfortable place to live and go to school.

Sister Simone, a Catholic nun who currently runs CAESEDA has been given land by the Cameroonian government to build a new facility, but she does not have the necessary funds. The project has 5 modules that include dormitories and classrooms, dining area, medical clinic, and training center. The entire project will cost almost 2 million US dollars to complete. For now, it would be wonderful to at least complete Module 1 so the children have decent living quarters and decent classrooms. The funding requested here is for Module 1.

Module 1 will require several different phases to complete. These include: foundation; floors, walls, and windows; painting; electrical and plumbing; bathrooms; and furnishings. We are currently trying to raise the funds for Phase 1, the foundation.

I am also donating 100% of the proceeds from my book sales to this cause (i.e. funds raised outside the fundraiser). Purchasing a book will help me to 'Pay It Forward One Book at a Time'. Another successful baking fundraiser. March 8th is International Women's Day, but it also happens to be my birthday. Being from Canada, March has also been a time to celebrate St.Patrick's Day. So, I used the 'green theme' to recognize the important dates in March and made extra 'green' sweets to. . . . .

I am the 'birthday baker' for our school, so at Christmas I baked not only the staff birthday cakes for December, but also many other Christmas sweets. Thanks to the generosity of our staff, we were able to raise $174.36 US (105,150 CFA) for the deaf orphanage.
