Muscular dystrophy is an insidious inherited condition in which skeletal muscles that control movement progressively weaken, causing the victims to ultimately lose their ability to move. There is no cure for muscular dystrophy. Two of my uncles, Froilan Dela Cruz who is 51 years old and Elmer Dela Cruz, 39, both suffer from this disease.

I have seen them slowly deteriorate from the healthy men they used to be. My own eyes bore witness to how my uncles’ remained open in their futile attempts to sleep. As I grew up, they seemed to gradually dwindle as they became thinner and weaker with the passing of each day. It was my grandmother, Cresensia “Lola Ising” Dela Cruz, 79, who devoted her life to their care. This was until sometime in October 2017, when she suffered from a stroke. Since then, she herself needed as much medical care and assistance as my uncles did.

Unfortunately, our humble family lacks the financial resources necessary to send them to a specialist and provide them the treatment, equipment, and supplies needed to allow them to live with these conditions as comfortably as they can. Nevertheless, with the love we have for the three of them, we are willing to find any available means to righteously deliver them the medical attention they deserve.

Lola Ising is in need of series of therapy to be able to walk again,

Uncle Froilan can no longer close his eyes, unable to see, having difficulties to eat and sleep, have irregular bowel movement, and is very weak.

Uncle Elmer needs to have is eyes checked because of hazy, blurred vision.

Three wheelchairs, medical assistance, and a nurse – these do not sound like much, but they would ease the unrelenting discomfort my grandmother and uncles face every day.

Hence, with utmost humility, I would like to knock on your kind hearts and hope that your generosity will compel you to aid us—with whatever you are willing to give—in this time of need. Should you be unable to send relief financially or in kind, forwarding this campaign to all your friends, family members and social media contacts will be of immense benefit for us and our family. But on top of everything else, we believe that your most sincere prayers will give us the light and guidance we most need to surpass this predicament.

On behalf of my family – I am profoundly grateful
