Day Out @Singapore Zoo for the some of the folks at MINDS(www.minds.org.sg)

Please do read this: slightly long, but the story hopefully adds up and strikes a chord!

I recently volunteered at Minds( please look them up at http://www.minds.org.sg) at their centre in Kembangan-Chai Chee Community Hub, Singapore. MINDS is an organization that works with Intellectually disabled folks and their families/caregivers and helps advance the development, well-being and aspirations of persons with intellectual disability and their integration into Singapore society.

I came away humbled at the energy and zest for life that the clients at Minds have. Yes, they refer to the folks as "Clients", rather than making their disability center-stage. I love it!

Despite them and their caregivers being mostly indoors all day, their passion for life hasn't been dulled. I want to fuel that passion - while keeping the caregivers in mind. These are their immediate family members who have devoted their lives to care for them. This surely cuts into their own time and limits the scope of activities.

To add a bit more variety and color to their lives, I am sponsoring a day trip to the zoo on Dec 7, 2018. This will be for 60 people - 25/30 caregivers/volunteers and the clients at Minds. The tickets are being paid for by me for the caregivers. The admission for the clients is free - courtesy the zoo.

I am appealing for donations to fund their lunch and snacks. Am budgeting approximately $20 per person for lunch and a small gift from the zoo.
