Dear Friends and Benefactors,

In every day hustle and work we could forget about your dearest, closest and oldest family members which are our mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, and just elderly people who mostly stays at home left alone but who need our help and care. And for all retired people for to feel happy is necessary the very feeling of security, communication with their peers and just joyfully spent time with kind and caring people.

And my personal concern about solitary elderly people and seniors with dementia, has led to establishment of the first private Day Care Centre "AGATE" (DCC "AGATE").

My aim is to raise funds to develop and to sustain DCC "AGATE" and to provide care for seniors with dementia.

Every year in Latvia the number of seniors suffering with dementia increases year by year. Currently in Latvia are only three government subsided day care centers for seniors with dementia and the number of the placements in these centers are limited.

DCC "AGATE" is the only private day care center in Latvia that gives an opportunity for seniors with dementia to feel secured, welcomed, cared for and to receive a proper day care services.

In order for seniors with dementia to gain self-worth and self – esteem and to feel that they are an important part from our society – the day care center strives to develop and to expand in different parts of Latvia thus reaching more seniors who need day care center services.

Todays needs are very actual in the DCC "AGATE". The day care centre is urgently in need for a ramp for disabled, outdoor benches where our centre seniors would be able to sit at afternoons, as well as, a little table where the seniors gladly would play board games.

DCC "AGATE" also organizes computer trainings for seniors and train to lead correspondence with their peers, friends and relatives or acquaintances living abroad, as well as to make settlements. Due the computer trainigs the day care centre need three stationary computers for to replace the outdated ones and new tables.

The senior lounge is in need of a new TV as the day care centre seniors love to follow up their favorite broadcasts.

DCC "AGATE" aims to attract seniors who would benefit from the day care centre services. It is very important to be aware of those seniors who lives in region of Riga who would wish to attend and participate in our day care centre daily activities, but not for everyone is possible to come due the rented specially equiped transport costs. And for to make possible for the centre seniors (currently they are five people to whom the day care centre could fund daily transportation) to arrive to the day care centre from their homes and to return back home at the end of the day, these funds are very necessary.

It is also necessary to provide and to continuously outsource services from specialists - ergotherapeutist, podologist and Cigun specialist who DCC "AGATE" would like to invite due recently conducted survey of the day care centre seniors.

I would like to thank you, for your effort, time and your support!

Not all of us can do great things but we can do small things with great love. /Mother Teresa/

Kind Regards,

Inese Jurisa
