David’s Sahara Adventure

Hello, Thanks for visiting this page I will be attempting the huge challenge of a 250km trek in the Moroccan Sahara over 7 days, an arduous but exciting adventure called the 'Marathon Des Sables'. I know this challenge will push me far beyond my limit. The days are split into individual challenges ranging from 17 to 80kms. I have no idea of how many days I will survive but I have every intention of giving it everything I have.

I have decided to raise funds for two worthy causes; one is national, Cancer Research UK the other local, Refugee Action-Colchester. I have personal reasons for wanting to support both charities; 20 years ago a dear friend of mine passed away after a year long battle against osteosarcoma and just 2 days ago my colleague of 13 years was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. Most, if not all of us, have a dear friend or family member whose life has been changed by cancer.

My wife has been working tirelessly with refugees, who have been fortunate to find a home in the Colchester area but who need a lot of support in adapting to a very different life. This includes psychological and emotional support as well as practical assistance such completing various applications for visas, travel documents, immigration specialists, Home Office fees and simple life affirming things like a present for somebody in hospital, or a piece of kitchen equipment. The group advocate on behalf of refugees and campaign for Refugee Scholarships. They are currently involved with the Town Of Sanctuary movement to help Colchester gain Town of Sanctuary status. I have seen first hand how essential this work is for people who have lost everything.
