In 2009 I studied abroad in Tanzania and was lucky enough to meet the beautiful dancers and drummers of Afringoma, an African Traditional Dance group based in Arusha. For my independent study project I spent 3 weeks getting to know them, dancing with them and learning about their craft. Their talent, energy, and willingness to welcome me into their group stuck was unforgettable.
Afringoma was recently invited to attend an international dance festival in Istambul, Turkey! They are seeking help to fund their travel expenses and visa fees so they can attend the festival. Afringoma is working hard to preserve and promote traditional folk dance and music from their country. Their goals for the festival are:
1. Increases exposure of their group on the international folk dance stage in the hopes of receiving more festival invitations and expanding the reach of their work.
2. Share knowledge and resources and network with other folk dancing and drumming groups from around the world.
Beda Christopher, leader of the group, has asked me to help them raise $4350 to cover the travel costs of sending five dancers to the festival. Please chip in anything you can to help make this exciting opportunity a reality for Afringoma. Asante Sana!
