Dakota’s College Fund

Hello, my name is Dakota Johnson. I have been looking and applying to colleges that I have dreamed of attending. With fond memories, my mother told us of days she would spend in the Arizona sun with lizards and cacti stinging at her skin. I however, spent my youth growing up in Montana. During a family reunion, we toured the University of Arizona when I was 14. I was captivated right away by the campus, community, and academics there. I realized part of my dream going there is the ability to travel the country, not cooped up in Northern Montana as I have been all my life. My first choice, University of Arizona, sent me an inconspicuous envelope one day. Tearing open the letter, I realized that I had been accepted to my dream school. I tore open my laptop and began the process of becoming a Universty of Arizona Bobcat! Looking through everything, I quickly realized my dream may be unattainable due to finances. I saw the price for my first year was around 50,000 dollars! For one year! That's insanity for a middle class dude from Montana. As many high school seniors, I began to panic and look up every single scholarship to somehow make it affordable to go to college. This is one of the many ways I am trying to fund my future education.

At the University of Arizona I am going to double major in Electrical Engineering and Technical Theatre production. I found my passion for theater while working at Crown of the Content and Alpine Theater project. I met many world renouned musicians, actors, and artists through my experiences in Montana. Seeing them travel while pursuing their dreams convinced me to do the same. My desire to attend the University of Arizona is based on exploring lands, family ties, and creating a human experience through theatre.
