They call me Max. I’m 37. When I was 15, I discovered that I have a muscular dystrophy, type LGMD2A. My illness is progressive which means every year my condition gets worse. For 5 years I can’t walk and now I can’t even stand upright.

Until recently, my disease was considered incurable. Fortunately, a new form of treatment emerged. It’s based on a stem cell transplant. Such cells can multiply autonomously and therefore repair and restore the muscular tissue. I’m very happy to have been qualified to this program. Unfortunately, I can’t afford it.

My current income is insufficient to cover the costs of the therapy. Together with all required tests, suplementations and rehabilitation, I need approx. 250 000 PLN. The Polish NHS doesn’t cover any of these costs.

The stem cell therapy is an experimental treatment, but it has already produced positive effects and visible improvements of the patients’ conditions. The results of the muscular strength measurements show an improvement which is far beyond of what is possible in a regular physical therapy. Moreover, it is confirmed that the transplant arrests further development of the disease and, in result, significantly improves the life comfort of the patient.

In Poland any treatment using MSC (mesenchymal stem cell) injection has to be approved by the Bioethical Commision. The transplant will be performed by KLARA Medical Center in Częstochowa, which is licensed for treatment in specified types of neurological conditions. I already received the approval from the Commision and qualified to KLARA’s program. The most difficult part is ahead of me: financing it. I would like to ask for your support. I will be extremely grateful for every donation that will bring my dream closer to reality.
