Congregacion de Hermanas de Calcuta

Disabled people have a really rough time in Cusco, receiving very little to (usually) no support at all from the government, financial or otherwise. It is not uncommon to see physically disabled people crawling on the streets, having no other way of mobilising themselves, both in the touristic city centre and much more widespread in the poorer suburbs.

Congregacion de Hermanas de Calcuta are doing excellent work to combat this problem with severely limited resources. They provide a residencial/day centre for disabled adults and children, as well as simple but life-changing equipment such as wheelchairs and crutches.

Cusco is rapidly developing as one of the most visited tourist destinations in South America, but the degree of inequality remains sickening. There are an infinite number of amazing causes helping to tackle this problem in the city, aiding various disadvantaged groups, but those working with disabled people are severely limited.

The Challenge

I will be cycling the length and breadth of the continent, at which this fantastic charity is at the heart, in an attempt to raise as much vitally-needed funds as possible. From Taganga on the Caribbean coast of Colombia in the North, to Ushuaia, Patagonia - the Southern most city in the world, and dipping my wheels in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on the East and West coasts along the way. Other than this the route is unplanned, but I anticipate it covering at least 8,000km in around 9 months.

Please, please give generously to support an amazing ccause, working with incredibly grateful people. People that everyone else has forgotten...
