The Challenge: 12 in 12
I'm just an ordinary guy who has set himself a crazy goal and if I can raise some money for a good cause in the process, even better. The T project, Singapore's first and only social service for the transgender community, a great initiative that I came across in my role as an Inclusion & Diversity Ally for Accenture Singapore's Technology practice.
I am aiming to complete 12 marathons in 12 months from February 2020, culminating in the Disney World "Dopey Challenge", a multi-day event comprising a 5km, 10km, 21km Half Marathon and a 42km Marathon over 4 days in Florida, Jan 2021. My planned race calendar so far:
- 9th Feb 2020: Hong Kong Marathon - Confirmed
- 16th Feb 2020: Garang Warrior Ultra (Singapore) - Confirmed
- March 2020: Miri Marathon (Malaysia) - TBC
- TBC April 2020: World Cities Run to Berlin Marathon (Virtual) - Confirmed
- 23rd May 2020: Sundown Marathon (Singapore) - Confirmed
- 20th June - Singapore The Green Race Marathon - Confirmed
- 5th July 2020: Gold Coast Marathon (Australia) - Confirmed
- August 2020: Melaka Marathon (Malaysia) - TBC
- 20th Sep 2020: Sydney Marathon (Australia) - Confirmed
- October 2020: Force of Nature Trail Ultra Marathon (Singapore) - TBC
- November 2020: Penang Bridge Marathon (Malaysia) - TBC
- December 2020: Singapore Marathon - TBC
- 6-10 Jan 2021: Disney World Marathon (USA) - TBC
I may not be super fast but I am determined to finish. Note that all charity money raised will go direct to charity (not to be used for entry fees, gear, travel costs etc).
More about The T Project
For many people, Singapore is a wonderful place to live. However, there are still many social stigmas for those that do not conform to the 'mainstream' view of gender and sexuality, and there is very little government or community support for people who are part of the LGBTQI+ community. The T Project is the only social service in Singapore that exists specifically to cater to the transgender community. The project has set up a residential shelter, along with suitable referral support to residents to meet their employment, social, healthcare, and emotional needs. Warming up with the Singapore Marathon 2019
Update posted by Rebecca Hatten at 03:45 amI entered the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) way back before I committed myself to this challenge, but I knew it would be a good reminder of just how hard it is to run 42kms in one go, so approached it as a bit of a ‘warm up’ event for. . . . .
