Cuba-Help us Surprise our suffering family in Cuba!

The year 2007 was a turning point for all our lives. It was on Labor day, September 3rd 2007 that I received the worse news of my life. I was at home recovering from surgery when that night I received a phone call that my father who was my best friend, my personal prayer partner, warrior and rock had a massive heart attack and died. He was only 59. He was a true man of God an inspiration to us all. He at the time had started and operated many internet ministries. My heart was in a million pieces. That following Friday, despite my own recovery, was determined to fly to California for his funeral, instead I ended up in the hospital with a very large blood clot in my leg. Needless to say I was unable to attend my father's funeral, and to top it all off, my husband received a phone call from his family in Cuba to say his father who had back surgery that same week was now paralyzed from the waist down. Due to our own medical expenses and financial situation we were not able to go and visit my father-in-law until 2009.

We were quite shocked to see his condition, he was in a regular twin bed, with a nylon covering that my husband had sent the year before. He was but skin and bones, with the worse stage of bed sores possible to his lower back, my husband broke down in tears when he saw him. His wife feeds him while he is laying on his back in bed. They do have a wheelchair but its not padded and so because of his bedsores he spends most of his time in bed. It is very difficult financially on them as he was the only person that worked before he retired in 2007, and what is needed for him is more than we can afford to give.

My husband sends what he can, as we do have our own family and kids here he also needs to support. We would like to be able to raise enough funds for our family in Cuba to get him a proper hospital bed, wheel chair, and all the daily nutritional supplements and food he needs. His wife Deysi tries her best to take care of him and her elderly mother who also lives with them. Recently he was hospitalized and unfortunately he came home with even worse problems than he went in for.

We are desperate to see him and to supply him with what is necessary to improve his quality of life. As a geriatric nurse for 20 years I see what can happen without proper care. Thank you all in advance for your support.
