My name is Joshua Caleb S. Bayer and I am initiating this fundraising on behalf of my 60 year old father, Dionisio G. Bayer Jr., who was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer.

Check-up Day (March 7, 9am):

It started when my father experienced internal bleeding for 4 consecutive days while pooping in which resulted him to go see his doctor at Marikina Valley Medical Center on March 7, 2018 and was eventually admitted the same day. (He was ok, strong and nothing unusual except that he’s discharging blood while pooping). He underwent several check ups and laboratory test a day after (March 8 - Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy; March 9 - CT-Scan and Biopsy)

Doctors found a 5cm tumor near his rectum blocking his body waste to come out naturally and its the one causes bleeding everytime he poops. Doctors immediately suggested to have it removed as soon as possible as it can grow rapidly to block his large intestine or will quickly multiply/scatter and will cause several complications. My family agreed with the doctors advise and he had his surgery last March 10, 2018 (Saturday).

Operation Day (March 10, 1pm):

The surgeon was able to remove the tumor sucessfully but while the doctors are about to finish the operation my father’s body suddenly reacted differently and he lost a tremendous amount of blood. His vital signs went down, had a cardiopulmonary arrest and was given CPR for 2 to 3 minutes. The doctors were unable to completely close the operation as they did damage control. To monitor and improve his situation his doctors suggested to put him in ICU.

Transferred to ICU Day (March 10, 8pm):

His first week in ICU was a nightmare for all of us, his vital signs were not going in the right direction. A total of 15 units of RBC (Red Blood Cells), 11 units of Frozen Plasma and 17 units of Platelet Concentrate were transfussed to him. (Thanks to all who donated blood and to those who help out in so many ways just to be able to get what my father’s need during that critical situation. You guys are truly amazing and God’s gift!)

Dialysis and Pnuemonia:

In addition to my father’s condition, he is undergoing dialysis to help out his kidney since he’s unable to discharge urine by his own. His kidney and liver are both not functioning as it should. His lungs had a fungal (Pnuemonia - another problem on the table) due to his intubator.

With every procedure and treatment comes with a cost. A cost that we didn’t prepare for. Yes, Marikina Valley Medical Center is a private hospital and Yes my family is prepared for his surgery thinking that he will go straight to recovery room after the operation, like what the doctors initially discussed to us; as all his test prior the surgery were all normal and good for the operation. But it didn’t go the way we expected.

Red Tag!:

From March 7 (the day he was admitted) up to March 10, it cost us more than Php500,000.00 (Five hundred thousand Philippine Peso) already (no professional fees included) and he’s still in ICU as of this writting (March 25). The amount is getting bigger and bigger since then. Though we decided to raise “RED TAG” (way to inform the hospital that all of the medicines and supplies will be shouldered by us; lab tests, x-rays and dialysis will be cash basis upon request) to precisely save up money as they charge triple the amount of it’s SRP for medicines expenses (they also charge handling fees). With this, we end up buying medicines outside of the hospital and this used up my parents savings and our individual savings quickly.

As much as we want to keep this to ourselves and just deal with it, I have asked God to give us strength to let us allow people to help. I am knocking to your kind heart for a little help financially for him at this time for obviously not able to work and will not be able to work for some time. With every day medicines and laboratory test needed, our money is getting tighter and tighter. My family and I are asking help for this situation. A little goes along way even your knowledge on charities or groups that would be of help to him would be greatly appreciated. (One of my friends suggested to create an account here in GoFundMe, Thanks to you! You know who you are)

My father is strong enough to overcome this with our help! He was so kind, selfless and hardworking. He is always there to give to others and to his family. His desire to serve God is what were holding on.

Now it’s time to send back some love and support to my father. Any amount you can donate will be truly appreciated. Please spread the word and thank you from the bottom of my heart!
