Creating Environment for Better Health

Hello, and thank you for your interest.

My name is Kris and I would like to present you my project and ask you about your support. I am going to tell you here why I have decided to create this project, who will benefit from it and what specifically I am going to do here?

USDA's Economic Research Service estimates that 23.5 million people in USA live in food deserts. More than half of those people (13.5 million) are low-income. The lack of access to fresh food contributes to a poor diet and can lead to higher levels of obesity and other diet-related diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

Federal and state government realized the size of this problem and created many programs to help those communities. We see some improvements but this is still a big problem for many of our families.

To respond to this challenge and help many of our families I decided to open "Garden Place"

“Garden Place” will offer customers from underserved communities fresh fruits, vegetables and other fresh products. All of our products are healthy alternatives to the products available at local convenience stores and in some locations only fresh products. Store will be located in the heart of Delran Twp. NJ and situated on busy RT 130 with close distance to food deserts in south-east NJ and Philadelphia region. Our store complex will deliver fresh product to underserved communities of over 158,000 residents, schools plus over 205,600 residents of communities surrounding store.

More specifically, creation of “The Garden Place” aims to achieve the following:

• fulfill demands for fresh food in Limited Supermarket Access Areas by offering delivery of fresh products to food deserts;

• deliver fresh and nutritious product to schools;

• develop and enhance distribution system to increase the amount of healthy food going to food deserts and new retail places;

• develop strategies that promote and encourage the purchase of healthy food;

• help individuals from low income communities to understand relation between food and health by educating and promoting health literacy;

• improve health quality;

• create sustainable new employment in low income neighborhoods;

• create employment for recipients of “Temporary Assistance for Needy Families”;

• promote healthy food retailing;

We are asking about your support for this project. Money received from this fundraising will go towards licensing, permits and all required documentation to move forward. We have our concept and all steps to accomplish our goal very carefully prepared. We just need to complete all legal documents to move forward to the next step.
