Creating an Application for Diabetes Patients

I am a last year medical student in one of the hospital in Thailand who trying to raise money to create application and community for diabetic patients.

According to Bureau of policy and strategy, Ministry of public health, there has been an increasing trend of diabetic patients in Thailand from 2550-2557. However, with the scarce resources and facilities especially in public hospitals, diabetic patients specifically from the lower income family were unable to meet their needs”

From my experience training in one of the biggest hospitals of the Ministry of public health for nearly 3 years, I have witnessed many people with diabetes end up losing their eyes, their legs, their kidneys or even their life. The saddest thing about this is that these complications should not occur as, this is PREVENTABLE. Simply by keeping a person blood sugar within the normal range, these drastic consequences can be avoided.

‘Controlling blood sugar’ it sounds simple but yet not easy to do for many people, due to the lack of knowledge on the disease, lack of self-discipline or the difficulty in getting access to health care services.

Additionally, doctors are also struggling with this epidemic as they are being strained to manage the increasingly large number of patients requiring attention due to diabetes related complications. The increasing number of patients coming into the hospital per day evidently leads to more workload for the doctors and therefore less efficiency. This results in the government hospital itself having to spend a large sum of money on diabetic patients alone.

Because of these problems i come up with a solution an application and platform that will help both the patients and the doctors. System details:

Once the patient does the blood test at home and gets the result, the patient will then put the test result (blood sugar level) in the application. The application then transfers the data to the platform automatically.

The doctor who has access to the platform will then be able to view the test result in real time. However, because we do not want the doctor to monitor the screen 24/7, we will include the rules setting function. Therefor the doctor is able to set the normal test range for each patient and only when the test result goes out of range it will notify the doctor. This will allow the doctor to take action regarding the test result accordingly.

This way the patients won't have to feel alone anymore they will feel secured that they have someone looking after them at all time and also they will be able to control their blood sugar better which lead to less complication and better quality of life. From the doctor side their work load will be decrease but their work efficiency will increase. For the hospital it will reduce number of patients having to come to the hospital which mean the doctors can focus on the case thats actually in needed.

I am really wanting to make this happen for all diabetic patients because i understand how hard it is to control the disease and how bad it is to get the complication and i want to see diabetic patients have good quality of life. Help make my dream come true
