The Bahamas is an archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cuba and Hispaniola and southeast of the US state of Florida. The capital island is New Providence where I was born and grew up.

Eleuthera, where I moved to last August, is just east of New Providence. This island is one hundred and ten miles long. Here, there are amazing beaches, lovely cozy places varying from private villas to luxurious resorts.

I live in the very southern part, where life is quite quiet and slow. Having two kids, we set out on what we call "adventures" often, where we head up north and camp in Preacher's Cave at Devil's Backbone where the English Colonist settled in 1648. The islands were deserted for some years after the enslavement of the Lucayan people which wiped them out.

We roam the island learning more and checking out parts we haven't seen yet. We fish and swim and have amazing times.

There is one movie theater on the island, located centrally. There is also a game room that seems to be opening soon. Down south, things are much slower, for us the movie theater is a fifty mile drive - an hour long.

In New Providence, I worked with children. I facilitated a playgroup where we did arts and crafts, sang and danced, explored the world around us and let them lead their learning experience. My children and I also do arts and crafts and play board games and things like Pictionary.

We hope to open a recreational center, where (for a reasonable fee) kids can go to hang out, play various types of games, have access to arts & crafts supplies, watch movies and connect with each other. There will be a parents' area where parents can unwind while the children are occupied. It would be located mid south, where there are more children and not quite a far drive as the movie theater or game room.

I have already began looking for a building to accommodate the center. I am currently waiting on quotes. The necessary funding we need would go towards licensing, securing rental of the appropriate space and getting it prepped and ready to open. We also hope to raise enough to cover the first set of supplies and equipment.
