CQF for OrphFund

Update posted by Cael Fay On Oct 07, 2016

Beginning fundraising for 'OrphFund' just before turning 6 year old & now at 8 years old, Cael (C.Q.F) was named as an Ambassador for the entirely volunteer run, Australian based charity at the end of 2015.

Cael has raised funds by asking friends and family for donations in place of Birthday or Christmas gifts for the last 3 years and hosting fundraiser birthday parties (a gelato party with gelato donated from local business Live A Little Gelato and a movie night with a projector in the backyard), being sponsored to walk 3kms in the Adelaide city to bay, holding a garage sale where he sold his own toys and books, approaching local businesses to have donation tins on their counters, giving talks at his school assemblies and initiating fundraisers such as 'silly hat day', donations for book week dress ups and selling produce from the schools garden. By doing chores around the house and by donating money left by the tooth fairy!

He is currently working on 3 more projects to hopefully raise further funds, including working towards a photographic exhibition.

Having just been named as an Ambassador for Barbie in the "You Can Be Anything" campaign, he hopes to inspire others to think of what they can do for others and to raise more awareness of the invaluable work that OrphFund does.

Running grass root, self sustaining, community projects, that provide shelter, nutrition, health care, support, education and training, OrphFund is a volunteer based organisation helping abandoned, orphaned and vulnerable children around the world, regardless of race or religion.

The funds that Cael has raised to date have:

- Built 2 bread ovens (and their protective structures) in Uganda to provide bread for the community but also to sell and raise further funds for the local school to finish being built, equipment for the school and supplies for the students

- 100 beds for an orphanage in Sierra Leone, established during the ebola outbreak

- a pineapple plantation in Sierra Leone to provide pineapples and a source of income for the community

- getting a shipping container filled with school supplies, musical instruments, books, clothes and even a car the OrphFund Childrens Village in Uganda

- refurbishment and repairs for the children's villages, schools and community spaces and ammenitites

- and his current fundraising project, raising money to pay school fees for secondary school students from the OrphFund Childrens villiage in Kenya so that they are able to continue their education

As a completely volunteer run charity, you can be confident that 100% of all donations reach children living in poverty.

Cael is forever grateful for any help to raise funds, you can help by
- donating at https://gogetfunding.com/project/cqf-for-orphfund or in any of the cafes in Adelaide with a tin
- sharing with your friends and family, perhaps planning a charitable birthday, Christmas or other celebration?
- invitations to local (adelaide) markets or events for Cael to take donations
- counter space at your business for a donation tin
- holding office fundraisers

- anything else you can think of and would like to propose!

As you may have read in the recent abc online article, Cael has decided to sell some of his books + toys in order to raise more funds for much needed beds for the new OrphFund orphanage, in Sierra Leone. We have added various household goods and now Cael will be hosting a garage sale in two weeks time, on the 6th + 7th of december (both the saturday + sunday), from 8:30am - 2pm each day.

As we dont personally have enough space, the garage sale will be held at a very kindly offered residence in Ingle Farm, Adelaide* (south australia). If you are in Adelaide or if you know anyone in adelaide who you can share this with, we are currently asking for donations of goods to be sold - furniture, toys, books, games, clothes - anything in reasonable condition, with 100% of proceeds going directly to OrphFund.

Cael is also collecting sanitation goods to be shipped to Sierra Leone - soap, disinfectant, bleach, gloves, mops, buckets etc at the same address. If you are able to contribute anything to either the garage sale or sanitation supplies please message via this page or call or text 'Caels Mumma' on 0402441887. Please put the garage sale date in your diary, come down, grab a charitable bargain and say hello!!!
Donated goods that are not sold will be donated to a local charity, if any items are suitable for the children they will be sent with the sanitary items to Sierra Leone.

A bed ( including mattress ) costs $100. At the time of the ABC online write up being published, Cael had raised just under $2,300, enough for 2 bread ovens in Uganda and 6 beds for the new orphanage being established in Sierra Leone. As a result of donations from some very generous individuals over the course of the day, the bed tally now stands at 10.
Needless to say, he is over the moon!
He has also been very excited to read the lovely messages that so many people have written to him.
We cannot thank you enough x

You can help by sharing this page, the facebook page and/or donating via paypal or credit card, keeping an eye out for the donation tins at 5 Little Figs and Cherry Darlings Bakehouse, or perhaps even taking a donation tin around your office/workplace or putting one on your counter x

It's been a very exciting day here!
A big thank you again to Brett Williamson and ABC online for their lovely write up on Cael's fundraising efforts for OrphFund!

As mentioned in the interview, Cael had raised enough to build 2 bread ovens and was nearing the target for a third when he was asked by OrphFund if he would consider shifting his efforts to focus on the current Ebola crisis.

Tragically, a new orphanage needs to be established in Sierra Leone to care for the rapidly rising number of children now without parents or carers.
This new orphanage will be home to approximately 100 of these children and OrphFund has asked if funds he raises can now be used to buy beds for these children.
Cael of course said yes.

Thank you to everyone who has commented on and/or shared the ABC piece!

The especially compassionate 'Cherry Darlings Bakehouse' has now very generously become home to the second of the CQF for OrphFund donation tins! An absolutely unmissable Adelaide destination for anyone with a sweet tooth (with plenty of delicious savory options too), you can visit them at 5 Aroha Terrace, Forestville.
Thank you so much for your support Cherry Darlings!!!

As always, you can also support CQF and his bid to help OrphFund and their invaluable work by donating here online

A very big thank you to the 9 very generous donors who sponsored CQF's 6 kilometre (+then some) Adelaide City to Bay walk!

The 'CQF for OrphFund' City to Bay total comes to an impressive $345 - definitely helped make the tiredness in those little 6year old legs feel worth it, he is pretty happy with that!

Of course he still has us working on his next fundraising ideas immediately, including a plan to hold a toy sale.
Thank you again to everyone for your continued support!

One very happy CQF, having just crossed the Adelaide City to Bay 6km finish line and received his medal! Right before we decided we would walk back to the start line... A VERY big day for little legs.
He made it to the finish line in a leisurely 1hour + 16minutes.

CQF asked us if he could have a pedometer to count his steps over the 6km walk and we obliged.

Steps taken = a whopping 15,059!!!

We are very proud of his commitment and very thankful to all the people who continue to so generously support his efforts and the amazing work that OrphFund does for so many.

A special thank you to those who came out on the day to walk with us in the CQF for OrphFund team too, it meant a lot to him to have you walk beside him x

The incredibly lovely Michelle + co at Five Little Figs cafe in Payneham South are so sweet & encouraging of CQF.
They offered to keep a donation tin on their front counter to help, as well as displaying a poster in pride of place.
CQF counted up the first contribution recently, which added up to a very healthy $56.70!
A BIG thank you to Five Little Figs & their giving customers!
They have very generously offered to have the donation tin back for another stint, they make great coffee, food & sweet treats so it's a win win scenario to visit them & throw in a few dollars while you're there!
