Cowboy’s Crusade

Throughout our lives there are times we need a hero, other times we are given the chance to be one. Cowboy needed a hero, someone to rescue him from his current situation. Cowboy is 14yrs old with a long life ahead. The plan is for the second half of his life to be neglect free. My son says to me "The thought of leaving him and not buying him weighed to heavy on my heart and mind". He said he tossed most of the night remembering Cowboy's glare and his half starved belly. He went back to the seller and bought him. A vet was scheduled a few days after. Turned out his teeth had not been floated in very long time making his chewing difficult. Floating (filing) is needed because a horses teeth will wear unevenly, leaving sharp edges, ridges, or hooks against the cheek and tongue causing cuts or sores to tissue, infections leading to health issues. Floating was .scheduled next day. Cowboy showed signs of improved appetite quickly or at least improved ability to chew and consume food better and in less time. Although he is doing better, Cowboy is not out of trouble yet.

During the floating of his teeth, more problems were found. He has two broken teeth with an infection in one of them. Extractions are needed to relieve the obvious pain he has been in for God only knows how long.

Invasive surgery is needed including the possibility of needing a tooth punch. Minimum cost is $3500 with possibility as high as $6000. The additional needed procedures will not be known until surgery is underway. There is less than 30 days to pull this together to help my son & his family with the CRUSADE to treat COWBOY. Any amount raised above and beyond the final charges of the surgery will transfer to Equine Rescue of Aiken.

I am not surprised that my son and his family are willing to increase their debt, work extra hours, a second job what ever it takes to give Cowboy a chance to enjoy a healthier life with less pain in it. They are a Military family and have been for 15 years, always making sacrifices. Not everyone can make those sacrifices so easily.
