PROJECT COVID
Community Outreach Vaccine Initiative for the Disadvantaged
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
As of 21st March 2021, Kelantan recorded the lowest number of MySejahtera registrations with only 11.8 percent of the state’s population registered for the vaccination exercise. Currently, the rate of registration is almost 50%. However, in my role as a volunteer, at a Vaccine Distribution Centre ( Pusat Pemberian Vaksin PPV) I see a different picture. While a 50% MySejahtera registration is good, nevertheless at the grassroots, this comes mainly from the educated, middle to high income group. I hardly saw any of the lower income group. While there was a smattering of paralysed, bedridden, wheelchair-bound people, they mostly came in private ambulances, Alphards or SUVs. What about the others out there with no access to the PPV’s? With no one to transport them to the PPV’s? Who are we to say that the people of Kelantan don’t care about vaccination, when we provide very little support to those who are the most vulnerable? Let us not be too quick in condemning those who have not registered, or even registered but did not come for vaccination.
The statistics may not reflect what really is happening at the grassroots and this COVID OUTREACH project aims to ensure equity of vaccine access.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
We aim to ensure equity of vaccine access by using a THREE-STEP, TWO PART process:
3 |
STEPS |
1: Explain |
2 |
PARTS |
Vaccinate@PPV |

2: Register |

3: Vaccinate |
Vaccinate@home |
We will work closely with Kota Bharu Medical Centre which currently runs the Lundang PPV on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
HOW LONG WILL THIS PROJECT RUN?
Ideally, this project should run for as long as it takes. However, we aim to run it for a total of 8 weeks and then reassess the situation. We currently have the resources to work with one PPV and hope that at the end of the day, we will have a viable model for use by other PPV.
WHY DO WE NEED FUNDING?
While the entire project will be run by qualified fully vaccinated volunteers, funds are required for the following
