As many know, South Africa has a sordid past that has left the major of the country’s population struggling to build or rebuild their lives and secure decent education and jobs.

Invariably poverty exists on an astronomical scale, with many people living in inhumane conditions.

With the onset of Covid-19, these challenges have been amplified, due to the closure of some businesses, which has meant that many more people are now unable to earn a living.

Currently there are very few options for the disadvantaged youth and adults in South Africa to improve their financial situations significantly without costly formal tertiary education or training.

Millions of able-bodied, unemployed men and women of all ages are now at the mercy of receiving a government grant of $20 per month (doing the math, that means less than $1 per day!) to sustain their families.

Some senior citizens are living off grants that barely cover their food bill for the month.

Handouts among extended family members have for decades been the norm rather than the exception, since almost every family has “poor relatives” that need taking care of.

Poverty and the lack of education and means of earning an honest wage is stripping the vast majority of the population of their dignity.

Children living in impoverished areas are being denied the opportunity to be educated online due to the lack of computers and internet.

Many children also rely on their school’s feeding scheme to have a proper meal at least once a day, and this has also ceased since schools have been closed since March.

These same children are also vulnerable at home as child and domestic abuse was a huge problem before Covid-19 lockdown, but is now reaching record levels.

I have created this campaign as a personal effort to raise funds and awareness to the ongoing tribulations of the disadvantaged masses of South Africa.

I have chosen not to partner with any nonprofit or any other type of organization, merely because I would prefer to have full, transparent control over how the funds raised are to be appropriated.

In summary, and to provide a bit of perspective regarding the :

The goal = $70,000 (the equivalent of just over ZAR 1 million - that’s huge in South African terms)

In a perfect world, we would need:

70000 donations of $1
14000 donations of $5
7000 donations of $10
3500 donations of $20
1400 donations of $50
700 donations of $100

Know that your donation, no matter the $ value, will make a significant difference to the quality of countless South Africans lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read this campaign, and thank you in advance for your contribution.
Stay safe and be awesome!

Best regards

Feryal

  • I’m a South African who immigrated 22 years ago. I’d lost a business through Affirmative Action and a rocketing interest rate. I was angry and tormented by a past I did not create but tried to live with it’s consequences. but I love the country deeply and feel for it's people. The resilience and hope that the poor have always amazed me. Let me help.
