Cost of cataract surgery

I noticed this past September that the pupil of my fennec fox Hesoten's right eye had turned white. I was concerned about Hesoten so I took him to the veterinary clinic and had the vet diagnose him.

It turned out that Hesoten had a cataract in her right eye even though she was only 1 year and 4 months old.

I also found out that her left eye was in the early stages of cataracts. It is very scary for an animal to go blind in both eyes.

We asked a veterinarian at a veterinary hospital specializing in ophthalmology to tell us more about cataracts. Without cataract surgery and eye drops to control the cataract, the chance of complications is 90%.

If no surgery is performed and only eye drops are used to control symptoms,

the complication rate is 35%.

If surgery is performed and eye drops are continued after surgery, the

complication rate is 15%.

I also heard that if a cataract passes without surgery, the lens in the eye

may be examined and surgery may become impossible.

There is no specific date for cataract surgery for animals, but veterinarians have told me that it should be done by December.

The reason is that once the lens in the eye thins, surgery becomes impossible.

The more time that passes, the more likely it is that the lens will become thinner.

That means the more time that goes by, the more likely it is that you will not be able to have the surgery.

Also, the veterinarian at the veterinary clinic can be in charge of anesthesia, but I am thinking of having someone else in charge of anesthesia instead of that person.

The reason for this is that there are veterinarians who specialize in anesthesia, not veterinarians at veterinary clinics.

The veterinarian who specializes in anesthesia seems to be very busy and can only come to the veterinary hospital once a month to operate on Hesoten's cataracts.

Currently, the patient is on daily eye drops to reduce complications caused

by the cataract.
