On January 11, Corrie Briggs lost everything to an apartment fire. This young lady is a fighter, but this has devastated her. Everything is gone. She lives just above the poverty level so, as you can imagine, she now has literally nothing. This fund is established to help her meet her basic livings needs and to replace some of what she lost... kitchen necessities, clothings, furniture, a used laptop, food, towels and sheets, etc.

About Corrie: She was on her own, working at odd jobs to support herself, by age 14. All things considered, the birth of Corrie's daughter was one of the happiest moments of her life. Tragedy struck in the form of an auto accident that left Corrie not only in long-term pain, but with epilepsy from head trauma. She wasn't able to work for several years and, with her daughter in tow, her economic status dipped into poverty. In the summer of 2009, she gathered up her courage and addressed her dependence on pain medication. After many more life changes, persistence, and resilience, Corrie was able to grasp control of her own life in which she had a permanent job and could really care for herself.

A more determined, kind, loving, optimistic person I have yet to meet. Corrie carries no bitterness about her own past, only hope for her own and her daughter's futures. But this fire, and losing absolutely everything, brought her to her knees. She had no renter's insurance, no savings, no car, and some of what she lost was irreplaceable. If you’ve never lived at the poverty level, this is probably difficult to put in perspective. She literally has the clothes on her back, her new job at Rite Aid, and that's it.
