The outbreak of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus has caused approximately 500 deaths, primarily in China, with nearly 25,000 cases confirmed globally. The World Health Organization has declared a Global Emergency. Donations will support response efforts in China.
After Hong Kong reports its first death from the novel coronavirus outbreak and the transmissions are going between the cities and countries are likely, face masks and other disinfectant products remain sold out in most shops. It’s more important than ever now for Asians to stay vigilant but calm, have compassion for each other, and also lend a helping hand to those who are truly in need.
With even the government in short supply of masks, it’s not surprising that there are also many people in the city who simply cannot afford face masks, or work in high-risk jobs but are not given proper protection by their employers.
Containment and treatment of the pneumonia-like virus is critical. Individuals and front-line medical responders in high-risk and quarantined areas need supplies and continued support as the crisis unfolds.
Donations to this fund will support containment efforts and services for affected communities. Initially, the fund will help meet immediate needs for healthcare, food, and water in partnership with our nonprofit partners in China.
We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of outbreaks and other crises. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future outbreaks.
