Cooper is loved by many... I think more than me and Christoph combined. A few people asked if we were doing anything to allow them to contribute and help Cooper get better, so we decided to start a page that allows Cooper's "fans" to pitch in and help pay for his bills. Obviously we appreciate any contributions, but please do not feel obligated. If you have no idea what this is about or just want to know more please keep reading...

Near the end of September Cooper was starting to act very strange (pacing around, not recognizing people, falling down the stairs and walking in circles, etc.). He was taken to the Vet and she immediately recommended he should see a neurologist at the Animal Hospital. On September 26th he was admitted into Zurich's Tierspital where they did an MRI and tested his spinal fluid. There was inflammation near his cerebellum and further into his brain. The initial diagnosis was an autoimmune disease called Encephalitis of unknown origin (this is when the immune system attacks the braincells), which can be treated with immunosuppression (steroids). Unfortunately Cooper was not responding to the steroids so they tested for other possibilities. After all the tests came back negative and Cooper continued to get worse they concluded it is either a tumor or autoimmune disease and the steroids just weren't working. On Friday, October 2nd we were faced with the decision to put Cooper to sleep, start Chemo or start radiation. We decided to start Chemo immediately and within 3 days we would know if they were working. Thankfully by the third day Cooper was showing improvement... he was able to walk more than 5 steps without stopping, he tried to chase his ball and he recognized friends/family. Since then Cooper has continued to improve every single day, whether it is something as small/simple as being able to drink water to running or even wagging his tail. We took him home on Thursday, October 8th.

Cooper will have chemo treatments every 3 weeks and if he continues to improve it will expand to every 6 weeks and eventually every 9 weeks. After 6-9 months the chemo treatments will end and hopefully he will be completely better. 3 months after the first chemo treatment they will do another MRI and test the spinal fluid to make sure everything is going according to plan. IF he gets worse (fingers crossed this never happens) then they want to do a brain biopsy to see if it is actually a tumor. Radiation is extremely aggressive and they do not want to put Cooper through it unless they are sure it is a tumor. However, the chances of surviving the brain biopsy are very low. So let's hope it never comes to this.

Cooper had his 5th round of chemo this week and the doc said he is neurologically fine!!! He is also 10.1kg, which means he has gained over 3kg... which is great, but should probably stop or he will start rolling. Cooper is back to his old self. He is licking. . . . .

Playing with friends

Update posted by Michelle Hausberger at 08:57 pm

Cooper had his first day back with the dog sitter today. Which means he could play with his friends! We were a little skeptical how he would be (would he have enough energy? How would he act with the other dog? Etc.) Well it turns out when coops is free. . . . .

3rd round of Chemo and all is good

Update posted by Michelle Hausberger at 10:38 am

Coops had his third chemo treatment this week. The doc said he is very pleased with his progress and Cooper is nearly back to normal. He is back to his old weight (8.4kg) which means he has gained almost 1.5kg. Neurologically he still has some slight deficits in his back. . . . .
