Cooking: Project, Inspiration, & Survive

Introduction

My name is Daniel, 24. I graduated with Honor degree in Psychology. During my sophomore year, I discovered my calling as a cook. Then, the transformation came, I was working hard part-time in restaurants 6 days/week while maintaining my second-upper class CGPA. Despite being exhausted, I was a tutor of my friends. I volunteered in helping people who encounter difficulties in study 3 days week. I believe giving is as important as receiving. Nevertheless, my cooking zeal has never faded, but growing.

I live as a cook in Malaysia. With the minimal wage earned every month (RM1500/ 365USD), and severely hit by Riggit depreciation, both paying bills (rents, utilities, student loans) and saving up while embarking meaningful journey is beyond my capability..

Project. My fund raised will be used to purchase a Dehydrator (Excalibur, 5 trays, RM1600/ 388USD) and a Vegetable Turning slicer (Benriner, RM350/ 85USD). [The prices in Malaysia are more expensive than in US, due to depreciated currency, custom tax and shipping fee] The purchased equipment will help me to start my local catering business on Yumcious (a cooking platform), and the profit will help me to embark oversea journey, stagiaire and education.

Why dehydrator and slicer? Vegetable has been my passion. With the aid of the dehydrator and slicer, I could learn and manipulate its texture, shape, flavor, aromas in much deeper and inspiring way beyond simply roasting or satueeing. For example, the potato thread, deep-fried, could be portrayed as a bird nest on the plate, and proteins being buried, concealed at the center, thus bringing life and nature; Humble vegetable like carrot could be marinated, dehydrated, cooked, and dehydrated again to induce an intense, flavorful note.
