Campaign Story
Volunteer organisations working on the ground in the "Calais Jungle" are appealing for single item donations. I aim to take small bottles of cooking oil as this is one of the most expensive and coveted items in the individual food parcels given to refugees according to the information I have received from Care4Calais.
There are around 6000 people in the Jungle and I aim to take at least 1000 plastic 500ml bottles of cooking oil over in my car during February half term (13 Feb to 20 Feb). Please donate to cover the costs of buying the cooking oil. I will meet the costs of transport and any other costs or fees. If there is any surplus money I will fill the car up with as much fresh fruit as I can fit in, because fresh fruit is sorely needed but of course cannot be stored, so Care4Calais will distribute the fruit immediately. See http://care4calais.org/get-involved/donate-goods/. You can also find more information on how to help the refugees at www.helprefugees.org.uk which is working under the auspices of a registered charity Prism the Gift Fund.
There are no NGOs, government organisations, the UN or any official authorities working at Calais because the French Government has not officially recognised the camp as a refugee camp. No official bodies are allowed in. It is therefore up to us, human to human, to help. Thank you.
