Integrated programs that target children in their very early years are critical for their mental and psychosocial development. Failure to invest in Early Childhood Development can result in developmental delays and disability as well as inhibiting the optimal development and performance of children throughout their lives.

The long history of discriminatory provision in this sector delivers a set of conditions that make it difficult to provide a quick-fix solution. It is for this reason that the situation requires a set of immediate measures alongside carefully devised medium and long-term strategies that will provide a better foundation to address the fundamental need for Early Childhood Development and Education services in the era of devolution in Kenya.

Competence Building is currently seeking for donors, well-wishers and partners to support the ongoing construction of modern Early Childhood Development and Education Centres in Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, Kilifi, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo, Garissa and Kwale counties of Kenya.

CBS-ECE in Kenya’s work in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) revolves around the areas of health, nutrition, water and sanitation, protection and education. The focus has been on participation at pre-school (4-5 year olds) with Kenya having an ECDE Gross Enrolment Rate of 60.9%. However, research shows learning that starts much earlier in life and happens mostly by age 3 has a lasting impact on the child’s overall achievement later in life. In Kenya, there has been a gap in reaching out to the 0-3 year olds.

This is the gap that CBS-ECEK hopes to address. Literature review reveals there are knowledge gaps in effective child rearing among parents and other care givers. This is especially important for a country like Kenya where the ECDE Net Enrolment Rate is 41.8% and where mothers are the primary caregivers to children, especially in the years before schooling starts. CBS-ECE Kenya aims to provide parents and caregivers with skills and information to enable them to promote the psychosocial, cognitive and physical development of their children aged 0-8.

We believe that Early Childhood Development and Education is the key to a full and productive life for a child and to the progress of a anation, WE THEREFORE APPEAL FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE OF THAT LITTLE GOD HAS PUT IN YOUR DISPOSAL INDORDER FOR THE LESS FORTUNE TO HAVE ACCESS TO A BETTER LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
