Conspire to Keep Community Green at Arroyo del Toro!

Arroyo del Toro is a subsistence farming community of about 100 families. A rugged limestone road leads

eight miles from the financially devastated town of Canca La Piedra below to this once-upon-a-

rainforest. Thirty years ago the community thrived on its coffee crops but leaf-rust decimated that

crop. Now, they continue to grow banana, squash, avocado, beans, cauliflower and cabbage. But getting

crops to town without a village truck is tough work.
