Conservation Research Expedition to Honduras – July 2017

Hello,

In July 2017, I am taking part in Operation Wallacea Honduras, an exciting expedition in which I will be helping an international team of scientists with biodiversity surveys in the cloud forests of Cusuco National Park. The data recorded will be used by the Honduras Forestry Department to market Carbon Neutral Forest Credits, helping to protect the forest and its unique ecosystems. I will also undertake a Caribbean Reef Ecology course at the Utila Island marine research centre. In preparation for this I have already completed my PADI Open Water Diving Qualification.

The trip is being organised through my college, Truro and Penwith, and I will be going with a group of students and teachers from the Biology department.

I’ve now applied to study a BSc in Marine Biology at university with the aim of pursuing a career in this field. Operation Wallacea (charity number 1078362) is a conservation research organisation that is funded by, and relies on, teams of student volunteers who join expeditions to work on real-world research programmes alongside academic researchers. It gives volunteers the chance to work on a wide range of projects around the world and hopefully will offer me further research opportunities in the future.
