I have the opportunity, and privilege, to travel to Europe in September 2017 as a member of the Melbourne Bach Choir. The choir of 90 voices will be performing 6 concerts in Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. I am seeking assistance towards the travel and accommodation costs of this tour.
I auditioned for the Melbourne Bach Choir shortly after I retired in 2010, and embarked on a joyful journey of music and singing. Over the past 7 years I have experienced the joy of singing in many concerts, preceded by many months of exciting rehearsals. More recently I have auditioned for the newly formed Melbourne Bach Chamber Choir. These choirs are currently rehearsing J S Bach's St John Passion for performance on Good Friday at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Handel's oratorio Saul, and will soon commence rehearsals of Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil to be performed in St Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne in June. Our program for the tour of Europe will include Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and a selection of Australian works.
I am 72 years old, happily married, living on an age pension. Choir members are not paid or subsidized in any way, we have to pay annual membership and concert fees, purchase our own music scores, and pay all our travelling expenses.
Singing with the Melbourne Bach Choir has brought so much joy into my already happy life. This opportunity to travel to Europe is a rare opportunity that I intend not to miss!
I would really appreciate any financial assistance you may be able to provide. Thank you!
