Campaign Story
Thabang Mathebula (former E3 Programmes Manager) is running the Comrades Marathon on 28 August 2022 in aid of E3 Initiative. He is raising funds for Fisokuhle ECD Centre, which is currently under construction. Your donation will help build the kitchen, medical room and toilets to finish the centre so younger children can develop the skills needed to help break the cycle of poverty.
SAFETY | NURTURE | EDUCATION | HOPE
Priority is given to orphaned and vulnerable children in greatest need – those of teenage mums who are still at school and others being raised by their elderly grandmothers, some of whom have 8 children to care for.
Comrades is a formidable and gruelling ultramarathon of approximately 89 kilometres (55 mi) which is run annually in the KwaZulu-Natal province. It is the world's largest and oldest ultramarathon race. In order to qualify to run the Comrades Marathon you need to run a standard marathon (42,2km) in a time of less than 4 hours 50 minutes. Thabang has already qualified to take part with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes!
This year, after two consecutive years without the race taking place due to Covid-19, the race will be a down run starting from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
Good luck Thabang and thank you so much for helping E3 build the ECD Centre.
