Campaign Story
This week University of Texas Police Department issued warrants for THREE people (one newly charged person, two last week) they allege disrupted a meeting in November 2019. Donate and share, these comrades need our support to pay lawyers and fight these ridiculous charges!
On November 21 Defend Our Hoodz, in solidarity with Defend Boyle Heights, upheld the boycott of gentrifying non-profit art gallery Self-Help Graphics. The Blanton Museum (at UT Austin) was holding a panel to discuss a SHG exhibit they had on display. DOH supporters arrived and told the event that the Austin anti-gentrification movement stood with LA, displaying a banner and engaging in audience discussion. Police arrived soon after, and museum staff asked the police to stand down. After 30 minutes, the Blanton Museum canceled the panel, and everyone left without incident, and no arrests.
Two months later, UTPD is now targeting DOH supporters in an attempt to repress the growing protest movement on campus, which has also seen numerous sit-ins and the interruption of a predatory professor’s class last semester. This targeted repression shows they are embarrassed, and want to lash out, even though the Blanton itself did not appear to want the activists arrested.
We need your support to raise money for the legal battle ahead. While the ridiculous charges will likely be dismissed, UTPD wants to drain the energy and resources of our comrades. But they are strong, especially with their community behind them. Please donate whatever you can!

Outrageous suppression of community engagement on the campus of UT. These charges were doubt made at the behest of UT administration and will have a chilling effect on academic freedom and the open exchange of ideas at UT. As CSU faculty I stand in solidarity with the community of Austin against this blatantly political prosecution. Shame on SHG and shame on UT.
