Completion of my medical degree in Mauritius

Hello to everyone !

So my name is Sohail Thirlokinath. I’m 22 years old and I’m currently a 4th year medical student. As you might know, I require your help so I am able to complete my studies abroad

I am originally from South Africa based in Durban, Phoenix. The reason for me not completing my medical degree in my home country is due to the reverse apartheid system instilled in the tertiary institutions. As a result, those that were previously disadvantaged gets first preference and those that weren’t, are considered last.
It is still quite unfair and heartbreaking because as a South African Indian, we were and still are in the middle so only a small percentage (approx. 5-10%) are accepted into a medical school out of an Indian population of 1.3 million in South Africa. Due to this, I had to find other routes for me to achieve my dreams.

That dream became a working progress when I got accepted into SSR Medical College in Mauritius. And then came the COVID-19 pandemic. My parents’ business took an unfortunate turn for the worst which terminated all of source of income. I was repatriated back to my home country and tried to assist my parents in the rebuilding of our business but all failed due to lockdown restrictions.

There was two repatriation flights back to complete my studies but I could not get on as I did not have the funds for my flights, Covid tests, 21 day quarantine period, Exam fee, Campus Fee and Rent which worked out to about more than R100 000. The amount I have on this campaign is not close to what I need but it something towards me achieving my dream of being a Doctor one day. It would mean the world to me if I could get your help and support on my project.

I am currently waiting for flights to open so I can get back but I have until the end of June to pay something towards my campus fee or else I am de-registered.

I have just two years left before I graduate and with the funds I receive from this project, it will go towards my flights, Covid tests and quarantine as well as towards my fees for campus so I can write my examinations.
