Hi, I'm Julie Jacob and I am on a mission..to save my brother.
Clement Jacob - literally the warmest person I know. I could be biased because he is after all...my oldest brother.
For those who don't have the privilege of knowing him, he is a loving husband to Emma (going strong for 16 years, and a doting father to a girl Caitrein (14) and a boy, Elijah who's only 8. He is an amazing son, brother, uncle and friend who's ever ready to go the extra mile for someone in need. Family photo taken in June 2020 is shown below.
Since the middle of 2019, Clement has been having unexplained falls, gradual slurring of speech and muscle weakness on one side. After undergoing various tests with a Neurologist in June 2020, he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (specifically ALS ), a life threatening disease which until today is without a cure (What is ALS?). Doctor's referral letter as attached.
Clement worked in the sales line most of his life. So when he started experiencing slurred speech, he has had to give up his job, adding to the fact he could not drive due to his weakening muscles. So it's now Emma, his wife who brings in an average salary to support the family.
Clement's medical visits and subsequent followups have been funded initially by immediate family members. But unfortunately the ever-increasing cost of treatment has gone beyond our financial capabilities
Clement's urgent needs right now are:-
a) Rilutek - RM2200 monthly (which helps to slow down the progression of ALS)
b) Acupuncture - RM900 (RM45 per session for as long as required), Herbal medication at a cost of RM 100 to be taken every 6 days as long as is required.
c) Monthly visits to the MND center (a 2 hour journey which will require him to stay over for treatments)
d) Other medical equipment - Wheelchair, speaking aid, breathing ventilator and hydraulic bed as the disease progresses.
I don't know what the future holds but I am hoping to do everything in my power to ensure my brother Clement has a fighting chance to at least lead a comfortable and meaningful life. I want him to be able to grow old with his wife, to walk his daughter down the aisle and to watch his son graduate. I know he wishes for these too.
I also trust God with all that I don't know and all that Clement and Emma need to get through this battle.
I thank you for your prayers and financial support.
