KASULU COMMUNITY RADIO

1.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Organization for Human Investment and Development (OHIDE) is a non-governmental organization registered under Non- Governmental Organization Act, 2002 with a certificate of registration number 00NGO/0009326

The organization is founded by Tanzanians who have been participating in the implementation of various projects including community response to HIV/AIDS, equal access to justice, Girls’ education challenges, good neighborhood, entrepreneurships etc.

Its beneficiaries come from different groups within the community. To mention few they include women, youth, refugees, girls, and people living with disables, orphans and widows.

The organization holds a reputation as a creative entity with a mixture of professionals to assist the community.

2.0 Executive Summary

Despite efforts which have been taken by government and other Development implementing partners, towards promoting peace and security, conflict management and reconciliation, environmental protection, health, refugee crisis, education and culture, Kasulu is still facing problems resulting from ignorance, altitudes, poverty, lack of care to children and elderly people plus refugees challenges and other developmental issues.

All these factors and situations are obstacle in achieving not only self reliance, economy growth in general but also realization of Global Sustainable Development Goals

It has been observed through those challenges that, in order to achieve self-reliance and economic growth the communities in Kigoma need a community based media that will drive the messages for sustainable development leaving no one behind. And that calls for a demand to having Kasulu District Community Based Media, which hopefully by the end of 2018, through the Organization for Human Investment and Development (OHIDE) with other development partners shall launch a fully operational Radio Station under the name of Kasulu Community Radio a potential toolserve hard to reach communities in Kasulu and neighborhood areas especially in Refugee Host and affected area. This ambition will only happen after being commissioned with a license from Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

The Kasulu Community Radio is expected to provide to its listeners and refugees at large, the current affairs news, infotainment, educational programs and skills that can lead them to the development opportunities, eliminate ignorance and poverty eradication. Either the Kasulu FM will also work hand to hand with Government and UN agencies to encourage refugees to return to their homeland if there is peace and security. It is clear that at present Kigoma region, especially Kasulu, Kibondo and Kakonko reserves more than 350,000 refugees from DRC and Burundi and the current impetus is to give Burundian refugees a chance to return to their homeland with dignity.

It is due to that situation, the existence of the Radio in Kasulu district will play an important part in helping governments and international communities to achieve accurate reporting to refugees and even Tanzanians about security, environment conservation within refugee host community and etc.

3.0 OHIDE VISION

A stable and just community that is free from poverty, well-educated within an environment which is conducive.

4.0 OHIDE MISSION

4.1 To advocate for community self initiatives in alleviation of poverty;

4.2 To respect the principles of human rights, environmental protection and education improvement through trainings and;

4.3 To collaboration with government and other stakeholders to ensure proper implementation of SDGs.
