What is Mobile Kindy?

Mobile Kindy is an outreach project in which qualified educators deliver quality learning and childcare services to areas and communities where centre-based learning is not readily available or is inaccessible to families. Kalabu Mobile Kindy is situated 7 miles out of Suva and consists of two communities named Nasoqo and Wakanisila.

Who runs the Kalabu Mobile Kindy?

The Bright Little-Ones Children’s Services Centre, as legal entity provides the background for the coordination work. The Centre has its main office and the registered center base at Muanikau Road.

The administrative and financial services are provided by the Center (based on bylaws), where Milika Waqanisau works as a Director. Ms Milika works with a dedicated and enthusiastic team of qualified early childhood teachers, who have a passion to lead more children and families to receive high quality services and achieving better outcomes.

Your donation of 25 EUR will sponsor one term of education fees, a donation of 75 EUR can cover a whole year including enrollment fee

Selection of beneficiary groups

The baseline study shows that a total of 69 children between ages 2 – 5 are residing in the Kalabu area. Nasoqo and Wakanisila villages survived had no access to any centre-based learning due to the distance of their settlements from the main road and also due to financial restraints of locals in that area.

Schedules and logistics

The team at the Bright Little-Ones Children’s Services Centre provides three (3) classes a week Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with three or more teachers travelling each day to the Kalabu community.

Financial management

Parents, extended family, friends, former students of the centre base help to contribute to running costs and donate cash, stationery, educational toys, equipment and books. Main challenge is though that the Kalabu community members’ economic situation is very fragile and in several occasions the tuition fees of children are paid late or never.

Financial support requested

Financial shortcomings have to be covered through sponsors; to sponsor a child from outside of the Mobile kindergarten. To ensure a smooth running and potential improvement of services for the future the Kalabu Mobile Kindy is requesting for a budget support. This support would allow a proper planning of education services such as the financing of logistics and teaching materials upgrade.

Sustainability measures

The current student contributions collected the Kalabu Mobile Kindy would be used for the establishment of a Kalabu Mobile Kindy Development Fund that would support children in extremely difficult financial situation to continue their studies. Further these funds would allow the smooth running of the services and organizing awareness raising event within the community.
