Hello, my name is Denyse Umuneza, I work as a volunteer for St Annibale Learning Center, a community children daycare and preschool center in Kigali, Rwanda. Being a teacher and a mother, my dream is always to empower young learners in my country. I am dedicated to reducing the literacy gap in our rural community by providing motivational reading programs to our community's most economically disadvantaged children. Rwanda has set up a "Free education for all " policy in public schools so that all children can go to school. However, one of the biggest challenges is to find books , school materials, educational toys and other school supplies that are needed in those public schools mostly those in rural areas. So my idea to raise funds came up: as a volunteer to be in partnership with those schools and NGO so that we can set up community mini libraries where children can come and read books, listen to stories, play puzzles and games , do some educational activities for free during after school hours. We have started reading program "Bana Dusome Story Hour Program" In the school where I work and they accepted to give a free room where we can set up a mini library for the community around the school. I would like to call upon everyone to support my idea and to kindly donate to this project so that we can buy books to set up that mini library. My target is to buy 3000 books for now. The books are a bit expensive in Rwanda as most of books come from outside Rwanda that families from rural areas can not afford to buy them. Even the local books made by Rwandans are still expensive since they are very few at the market. We have already got 100 books from donations and we already set up different activities including the story hour as an after-school program for children aged 0-8 years old.

Please support me in realizing my dream and empowering young children literacy and give them education support they much deserved! Every single amount that can be donated would be very much appreciated! You can also donate books and send them directly to the center. For addresses, contact [email protected].

Thank you in advance!
