Community Health Intervention (CHIPs) 5 km fun run

The Community Health Intervention Programmes (CHIPs) was launched through the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA) in 1997 in the Western Cape.

Our primary focus is to offer sustainable lifestyle intervention programmes to create healthier (mentally, socially, physically), empowered (demystifying science, giving personal responsibility), cohesive communities.

For the past three years CHIPs has hosted 5km fun runs in different communities to create awareness about our initiative and to allow for further participation at our various branches on a weekly basis.

This year will be no different, but we have CHIPs Ambassadors assisting us on this journey namely: Dewald Human, Lizaad Williams, Mfundo Ndlovu and Stedman Gans.

We have started a #FundMyRun campaign to allow for our CHIPs Ambassadors to raise support through their participation at our various races. You can support them by sponsoring each kilometre our Ambassadors run or by joining them at the races in the communities. The #FundMyRun campaign will allow CHIPs to branch out into communities where we are not currently visible. Community Health Intervention Programmes thrive on empowering communities to be aware of our own health. Your support would enrich another previously disadvantaged community to participate in our OptiFit Outreach Programme.

The dates and venues are as follows:

• 5 October 2019- Ottery and Grassy Park 5 km cluster race – Time: 08:00 AM – Location: Ottery Civic Centre, Bruce Road.
• 12 October 2019- Silvertown and Hanover Park 5 km cluster race - Time: 08:00 AM - Location: Silvertown Community Centre, Linaria Crescent, Silvertown.
• 19 October 2019- Elsies River and Matroosfontein 5 km cluster race - Time: 08:00 AM - Location: Elsies River Civic Centre, Halt Road, Elsies River.
• 26 October 2019- Kuils River and Delft 5 km cluster race – Time: 08:00 AM - Location: Sarepta Sport and Recreation Centre, Mission Road, Kuils River.
