Campaign Story
In just over a week I am off to Vanuatu and Samoa to volunteer with Involvement Volunteers International on their Nutrition and Public Health Program. This program aims to combat public health issues, particularly non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as Diabetes. The prevalence of Diabetes in some Pacific Island communities is as high as 47% (compared to 5% in Australia) resulting in some of the highest death rates around the world. The aims of this project are health promotion and free assessments in villages, corporate businesses, schools and community centres to increase knowledge about nutrition and the effects of physical activity in the prevention of obesity and development of NCD.
