For the last three years I have been in a relationship with a combat PTSD sufferer. Everyday there is a different obstacle to face and after seeking help from various organisations I have realised that there is not much help out there. We had placed a deposit on a property in Europe which we had intended to move to. Then a friend killed himself because of PTSD. Our decision was made there and then. No more. It is heart breaking to witness and unless having suffered or been close to those suffering it is almost impossible to imagine the pain, the turmoil, the flashbacks, the nightmares, the anger, the tears - 6'6" he stood on the ground, weighed 225lb but i saw that giant of a man bought down, but not by love... Our intention is to turn our property into a retreat, a free retreat for these servicemen and their families, a getaway where there is nothing but nature and understanding and a glimmer of hope. We need to turn some outhouses into chalets and buy a little more land so that these war heroes and their families, who very often are struggling after being cast aside - there is very little in the way of compensation and we ourselves have been to rock bottom in every way financially and emotionally, have a place to have a break, and re-engage with themselves. These men have given their all as pawns in war and sadly because they are suffering mentally there isn't the help that they would have had they lost an arm or a leg. We just want to help those who are in a similar situation to ourselves and it would literally be saving lives and families if you beautiful generous people would contemplate contributing to our project.
