Hello everyone,

I am kindly asking you to consider helping my friend and brother Devon, an ambitious medical student who is currently facing deregistration from the University of the West Indies (UWI - Mona). Below is his story:

"I am Devon Malcolm Brewster from the Commonwealth of Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean. In 2017 my country was badly damaged by Hurricane Maria. Unfortunately, this coincided with my matriculation into the medical programme at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. In the aftermath of this, my parents' ability to afford this pursuit was further impeded and reports from the Ministry of Education there suggests the hurricane as the reason why they've not been able to sponsor 80% of my tuition for that year as per normal practice by governments of the region.

"Consequent to my inability to raise those funds, even after the government has paid for the 2018/2019 academic year, I am still owing for the first year and the university has moved to have me deregistered. I have already raised a little over $3000USD towards this outstanding balance. I am trying my best to avoid having to drop out of the programme as I am driven by my innate desire to contribute to the advancement of medical care in this region and beyond, with particular emphasis on the growing chronic non-communicable disease epidemic.

"In 2009 I graduated from the St. John's Primary School as its top performer. In 2014 I was awarded the honor of Student of the Year upon my graduation from the Portsmouth Secondary School; I was also a national top performer for CXC's CSEC in that year. I am a very well rounded student who believes in extra-curricular activities as a supplement to academic pursuits. Currently, I serve in the distinguished capacity as President of the Executive Board of the UWI Mona MBBS/DDS Class of 2022 and represent the interests of some 260 students across two campuses. I also am a singer with the world-renowned University Singers. Additionally, I minister in downtown Kingston at the Coke Memorial Methodist Church as the Organist and as Accredited Local Preacher. All of this comes after taking a gap year upon graduation from the Dominica State College in 2016 (with first-class honors) to devote myself as the Director of Music Ministries for the Savanna-La-Mar Circuit of Methodist Churches in Westmoreland Jamaica.

"These have been very trying times for me, indeed I have considered giving up several times. However, this is my passion and I am confident of my ability to emerge from this victorious and to make significant contributions to society as a professional. I am kindly asking for your help as I try to achieve my goal. I will be most grateful for whatever it is, little be it or much. Be blessed! "

I cannot think of a more humble and deserving person than Devon and I hope you will find it in your heart to lend you whatever support you can.
