This whole idea started from a fairly personal story. I had just transferred to a new school and was a bit isolated from anyone I knew. In fact, for the first two semesters of being there, I suffered from fairly severe depression, losing close to 40 pounds as eating was not good enough for me either. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a group of friends doing something called a, "Rickshaw Run." I watched as this group of friends ,close to the same age as I am, develop and learn to love life as they adventured across one side of India to the other in somewhat of a terrifying little vehicle. I then set a goal. I wanted to have a life like that and a friendship to match. So I worked diligently to establish new friendships and to always make my life better. Digging myself out of a very dark place, my sadness was replaced with determination. I have since managed to get away from the despair and the grasp of depression, never forgetting one of my biggest motivators, the Rickshaw Run.
Which brings us to now. I am on my senior year of school and my group of best friends is eager to join me on this adventure. Traveling from one side of India to the other is not cheap however, as we need to pay for airfare to get there and back, the entries into the event, and probably should eat and sleep on the way as well. This is where we need your help. Any donation helps and will help to make a lifelong dream come true.
Not only is this trip personal, but one of the requirements of the adventure is to raise a minimum of $1000 for charity along the way. I also want to aim this trip as an education experience to show teens and younger college students that depression is something to be overcome and things really do get better.
Please help to achieve something truly special. Who knows, it may just help another lost and lonely student find his/her way too.
