COLE GARDINER’S FIGHT WITH COLON CANCER

Cole Gardiner is the 24 year old son of our dear friends and long time neighbors in Bearspaw, Ron and Anisa. As some of you know, Cole was diagnosed with incurable colon and liver cancer in August. Since then, he has undergone chemotherapy and endured several complications and surgeries that have almost cost him his life. Today Cole is determined to recover and is still at Calgary's Foothills Hospital.

Cole graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and had a career in the energy industry as an Instrumentation Technician. However, he is unable to work at this time and for the forseeable future. He is receiving EI at this time, some insurance coverage and the family is helping to support him.

Some of you have asked how you can help Cole. Ron and Anisa would like to provide him with the following needs that are beyond the current assistance:

• Move him into more appropriate rental accommodations where he can fight his illness in relative comfort.
• Home care assistance.
• Medical bills over and above health care coverage.
• Groceries and personal items.
• Travel expenses for the immediate family to and from Calgary.
• Payment of Cole's monthly expenses such as apartment rent, an outstanding credit card balance, bill payments, etc.

Although Cole is expected to resume treatment at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in December, chemotherapy will eventually cease to be effective. At that point he will be looking for alternative treatment that might not be offered in Calgary. This may require moving Cole to another city within Canada or the US. The financial needs will be determined at that time.

Any unused funds will be donated to colon / liver cancer research.
