My name is Alexis Gil, I’m 20 years old, student, independent worker, I live in Venezuela and I’m a Proud Gay Man determined to become a programmer/Web Designer. and im facing big financial trouble due to coronavirus.

I Live in Barinas, near a town called Ciudad de Nutrias to be more specific, in a small farm village known as Vegon de Nutrias at 2 and half hours from Barinas and The University I assist. I started studying computer engineering 2 years ago. I had the help of my Aunt and my Dad, giving me a place to live and 3 meals daily.

At the beginning of my third semester my Aunt passed away due complications with cancer during surgery, after that I had to move out of her house because her husband was selling the house and moving out to his natal city.

Life got really tough, I was in the middle of mid tests, had no place to live and depended on lunch catered by university, not having breakfast every morning till 12pm was rough, I had to skip classes and fail some assignments and end up bailing pretty much third semester.

I had to find a place to live, it didn’t help that my dad told me that it was my fault for studying in the city and a ‘useless career’ overall (he thinks that the only career that is worth in this economy is medicine, which ironically can’t help me to pay for it as well) so any help was pretty much limited.

Eventually, I found a cheap place in a really nice neighborhood with nice people and safe streets to walk by without any danger, I liked the place because I could sell my cakes walking around the place and streets carelessly, and pretty much everyone knew me by then.

Getting into that above, in order to pay rent and breakfast/dinner (lunch it’s really expensive and I had accustomed to the lunch catered by school, that if they had it anyway because some days they couldn’t offer any so I had to go by without it) I started selling traditional cakes known as Cocadas, a sugar cane mixture (known as Melaza/Melao) cake with coconut. I was doing fine at first, I had enough money to pay rent, food, and a bit of leftover monthly to buy toiletries, some weeks even there were a bit more saved to buy a piece of clothes and eventually a pair of shoes/pants though it’s really hard to buy those without risking food, even though I couldn’t afford a electric kitchen nor a fridge at the moment, so I had the help of my neighbors during most of the months I lived there until eventually I bought a electric kitchen and and my grandma gave me a fridge.

Life was simple and yet happy, there were ups and downs, but you get used to it, sure the economy gets worse and worse daily, its not new here but there’s no choice but overcome that and keep moving forward

That was until… Covid-19 striked.

Personally I thought that I could overcome such, but I had to go back to the my parents house, I have to walk everyday to keep up with online classes, top that with paying for an overpriced internet for 30 minutes , and of course, just as a lot of us, due to quarantine, I can’t go to the streets nor the city to sell cakes so practically I’m about to any kind of income, the inflation of economy has become another level of terrible and I still have to pay rent for the room I had in the city even though I’m not using it but if I don’t pay for it, I’ll lose a perfect spot for sellingamong other things such as security.

I don’t have any more money left to keep working on Cocadas, I can’t keep paying rent anymore, buying food has come to decisions of when and what to eat, the internet is very overpriced but I need it for my studies and beloved ones who are far away.

So if you’ve read all of this, you’ll be thinking about the what is the purpose of this fundraiser, To understand that as someone who lived out of the city for almost all of his live and wanted to become successful its chances gets halved if not completely restricted by economy most of it and sadly my parents aren’t the supportive type in regards to both career choices and sexual orientation, But I want to change that and I need your help, I want to become a Web Designer and use my skills to provide guides and free education worldwide to any person who looks up for learning programming. I don’t only want to success on the business world of programming but also contribute to those who are starting their own but mostly I want to give back all and the finnancial help of who has helped me to reach my goal .

I want to prove to any young aspirant whose living condition whether or not being the same as mine that it’s possible to reach your goals if you keep pushing forward that you should never let hope give up, I want to prove to the people of my country that even this Twinkie looking, clumsy at times, nerdy but open heart guy with struggles as anyone else that I wont give up hope no matter the situations, the hungriness, the illnesses, the discrimination, the loneliness, and things I may be forgetting. Im sorry, english isn't my strong point.

Any help is welcome and truthfully appreciated and I’ll make sure to thank any each of you, this is just another obstacle that I will need to overcome and with your help I’ll make it possible, any Cocada I make with this money will be thanks to your help, the courses for my studies, not only that but food, medicine and also the fact of me reaching my goal of becoming a programmer an contribute to education for people around the globe.

I cannot thank enough for the help but I’ll try my best and secure to accomplish with the expectations that I have proposed myself at the very least
