This is my cat, Coco Bun, from when I found her abandoned and starving at around this time last year. She needed animal companionship while I nursed her back to health, so I "fostered" her with my rabbits, Honey Bun and Cinnamon Bun (she got her name from them).
She took to domestic life well enough, though it was slow going at first as she was quite nervous and fearful. But once she got over her shyness, she was an affectionate kitty. One of her favorite places to sleep was on my shoulder.
Soon enough, my little kitten was all grown up and became a mama herself! She had three beautiful kittens of her own, and one was added the next day when I found an abandoned newborn kitten near my front door, close to where Coco Bun herself was found the previous year. (There are a lot of strays in my area, if you're wondering why I keep finding cats.) The new mother accepted the new kitten without a fuss.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck. Coco Bun was savagely attacked by a neighbor's dog. Though she managed to get away and limp home, it wasn't without injury — she was bleeding badly from bite wounds on her hind leg, and the leg itself was hanging very awkwardly.
Later x-rays (shown below) confirmed my worst fears: the leg was severely broken. Infection had also already set in, complicating matters. The vet advised amputation. It's a blow, honestly, and while I wish they could save the leg, it is what it is. I was advised that trying to keep the leg would risk the infection spreading and may even result in death. Even if it worked, my poor kitty would certainly be in almost constant pain. Amputation, hard as it is for me to contemplate, is the best chance to save Coco Bun's life.
Estimates for Coco Bun's surgery and treatment range from around $500 - $1,000 — and that's being conservative. That also only really covers the immediate surgery. Taking into account the medicines, the hospital care, lab tests, aftercare, and etc., I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up spending somewhere in the vicinity of $2,000. I'll be trying to keep costs down, but that's a huge hit.
So, I need your assistance. Every little bit helps! Any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated, no matter how small, and if we somehow manage to get over the goal, then all excess will go to Coco Bun's further maintenance as needed.
Also, if nothing else, please share this with your friends and family for more visibility. Coco Bun and I need all the help we can get.
Thank you very much!
