This month I will be climbing the mountain Huayna Potosi (6088m) in Bolivia to raise money for the U19 Kenyan Women's Lacrosse Team. At the moment there are over 400 school girls playing the sport and a Kenyan training squad of 75. Out of this squad a team will be selected for the 2019 U19 Women's World Cup and make history by becoming the first female African Lacrosse team in a World Championships! Once we achieve this, lacrosse can be put forward for an Olympic sport as all continents will be playing on a world stage!
However, the majority of these girls are sadly orphans and therefore cannot afford water, lunch or transport let alone trainers, sports bras or their own lacrosse sticks. Therefore they need our help. To sponsor one girl for one year costs £200, which will cover all of her lacrosse fees. I hope to raise enough money to sponsor at least 2 or 3 of these motivated and amazing girls.
Participating in sport, particularly lacrosse, has given me so much in my life; life long friends, the opportunity to travel, confidence, discipline, focus and so many happy memories that I hope the money raised will help support some of these girls to be able to have the same experiences and opportunities. Every little bit helps and will make a huge difference to these girls lives. Thank you for taking the time to read this and in advance for your support and generosity.
Details of Climb:
Reaching the 6088m peak of Huayna Potosi will take 2 days and will be with a guide. The first day we will drive to base camp and then trek up to the high camp (5200m), which is at the base of the glacier. Then after a few hours sleep we will get up at about 1am to start our climb over the glacier to the top! We will then hopefully be at the top for sunrise or just after before making our way down again!
