I am a writer for Events and formerly a scriptwriter for television in some of the major television networks in the Philippines. I am trying to seek funds to formally restore some of the best Filipino Komiks serials ever created. Some may have moved on to either the silver screen or the small screens, yet most have remained ingrained in our memory.

Comics in the Philippines are widespread and popular throughout the country from the 1920s to the present. Komiks were partially inspired by American mainstream comic strips and comic books during the early 20th century. Particularly after World War II, the medium became widely popular, though its mainstream appeal has subsided somewhat with the advent of other mass-media forms such as telenovelas.

At one point, between 33 and 40 percent of Filipinos read komiks, but this number has significantly dwindled due to the emergence of "new" media.

The main purpose and thrust of this funding (if awarded) will be to collate some of the classic titles/novels of "Pinoy Comics" and turn them into graphic novels using their original artwork as was seen from their release.

Majority of the funding will be used to acquire rights and printing. By releasing this as graphic novels (which is popular nowadays) will let the next generation of Filipinos read, experience, and enjoy the stories told by some of the most creative minds from their race. It will boost cultural interaction among the next generation of filipinos and make them see the roots from where their favorite characters came from.

This undertaking will definitely spark interest and, who knows, might reignite or reboot the local comics culture/industry in the Philippines.
