Campaign Story
The harsh ripple effect of Covid19 has hit Claremont Primary School and its community of learners, staff and school governing body robustly. Due to lockdown some parents have lost their jobs and this has subsequently resulted in school fees not being paid. Since the dawn of democracy in 1994, the government has tried to bridge the gap using quintile categorisation of public schools and its concomitant funding. The categorisation is based on the socioeconomic status of the community in which the schools are located. Claremont Primary School is indeed located in Claremont however it does also serve learners from the cape flats. So, there is inherently a huge socio-economic disparity the school is dealing with. Claremont Primary School relies heavily on fees for the running costs of the school and we are one of a few quintile five schools that offer fine art, dance and music to name a few extra murals. These extra murals help our learner’s psycho-social development and act as a melting pot for other intelligences such as bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal and visual-spatial to flourish. Claremont Primary School is appealing to the South African community at large and its alumni to kindly make a donation to keep our school running and afford our learners the multifaceted education they were receiving before the pandemic hit us all in varied ways.
