I am a Board Certified Music Therapist with 20 years of experience. I am starting up a private practice in a rural area of central Michigan. Most of my clients will be nursing home, assisted living and hospice patients. Because of the economics of this part of the state, many of my clients will be on Medicare or Medicaid, which do not cover Music Therapy. The services I offer can help them with pain, grief issues, respiratory issues, agitation and confusion related to Alzheimer's disease, assist with occupational therapy and speech therapy goals, improve sleep and dietary intake, and increase independence! Music Therapy can ward off dementia, help those in addiction recovery, and bring moments of joy to the lonely or depressed. You can find more information on music therapy at www.musictherapy.org . I would use funds to purchase instruments and other equipment needed in therapy and pay for services for those who can't afford it themselves. I have no set goal or minimum, as I would be able to use any donations toward my cause. I have a guitar and amp, some rhythm instruments, an iPod (though an older model) and a violin. I am looking to buy a laptop, some hand held drums, more rhythm instruments, harmonicas, an iPad, a keyboard, and a small harp (such as a reverie harp). All other funds would be for services rendered. All items purchased would be used to improve the lives of my clients. Thank you so much for your time and donation!
